Bound - wood frame sculptural mask with stapled leather
Saturday, October 26, 2002 by Benjamin Bader
This was my first sculpture to incorporate leather. The mask was made using a poplar framework to recreate the basic form of the human face. Once this was glued together, pieces of brown and black leather were cut and stapled onto the wooden ribs and the leather on the forehead area was cut and nailed back like a dissection to show the underlying wooden frame. Finally, a strip of cotton fabric was stapled across the eyes and the piece was bound in string to create the finished piece.
